Following the success of our 2016 exhibition, Andre Kertesz.Thinking Big, we are delighted to present a second selection of over-sized prints from the Estate of Andre Kertesz.
Big Works. Selected Photographs from the Estate of Andre Kertesz includes exhibition prints from the early 1960s as well as photographs made in the 1960s and 1970s for the burgeoning photography market.
After the Second World War Kertesz began increasingly to return to his earlier works to print them at an enlarged size or to print new pictures at an unprecedented scale. Big Works. Selected Photographs from the Estate of Andre Kertesz presents as a key moment, the early 1960s. This was the time that Kertesz international reputation reached new heights through his participation at the Venice Biennale in the summer of 1963, a solo show at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris in the autumn of 1963 and then in 1964 his major retrospective at MOMA in New York. We are delgihted to have some of the actual exhibition prints Kertesz had made for Venice.
The presentation concludes with a remarkable selection of large prints of some of Kertesz most famous pictures such as the Satiric Dancer, Melancholy Tulip, Meudon and Chez Mondrian, as well as some less familiar works.
All works come from the Estate of Andre Kertesz.
