HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO RAYMOND CAUCHETIER!!
James Hyman is delighted to wish Raymond Cauchetier a very happy 100th birthday.
To celebrate Raymond Cauchetier's 100th birthday we are delighted to present for sale special signed, limited edition photographs selected from Cauchetier's own private archive. These include many of his most famous photographs - the iconic images of French New Wave Cinema - among them photographs of Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg on the set of Jean-Luc Godard's A Bout de Souffle (1959). We are also delighted to offer a rare selection of vintage prints from François Truffaut's celebrated film Jules et Jim starring Jean Moreau (1961), which have never previously been published and exhibited.
James Hyman Gallery is honoured to have represented the great New-Wave photographer since 2010 and privileged to have held two major exhibitions of Cauchetier's truly iconic work. Our 2010 show, La Nouvelle Vague: Iconic New Wave Photographs by Raymond Cauchetier, was Cauchetier's first ever solo show in London, and our 2015 exhibition Raymond Cauchetier's New Wave coincided with the publication of a monograph on Cauchetier by Philippe Garner's (ACC Editions, 2015).
One of the most influential and innovative film-set photographers of his day, Raymond Cauchetier - who still lives in the same Paris apartment in which he was born in 1920 - was for many years the unacknowledged genius behind some of the most iconic images of 1960s French cinema. Following a sustained campaign to have his work recognised, and with events such as the 50th anniversary of the release of Jean-Luc Godard's A Bout de Souffle (Breathless) in 2010 driving a resurgence of interest in New Wave cinema, Cauchetier is now able to claim his rightful place in French photographic history.
All works are for sale and are viewable by appointment.
