As the public's interest in celebrity images grew, many photo agencies were established worldwide specializing in this type of photography. New technological advancements allowed for images to be wired around the world with a rapidity not before seen. The daily activities of celebrities were consumed on a weekly, and even daily basis. Often photographs were hand-painted, a form of retouching comparable to today's use of digital airbrushing.
