Peter Doig: painter as printmaker - 2003

James Hyman Gallery is pleased to present the first exhibition devoted to the prints of Peter Doig.

Internationally acclaimed as one of today’s leading painters Peter Doig has also worked extensively as a printmaker. However, despite this engagement and the close relationship between the artist’s paintings and prints, this aspect of his work is still little known and his prints have seldom been exhibited.

In Peter Doig: painter as printmaker James Hyman Gallery presents over fifty prints by Peter Doig in a variety of media to reveal the consistency and extent of the artist’s activities as a printmaker. The exhibition ranges from relatively straightforward etchings to complex prints that combine printmaking techniques including hard and soft ground etching, drypoint, spitbite etching and aquatint.

This exhibition will also be the first opportunity in Britain to view Peter Doig’s new prints. Made just a few months ago, these painterly works explore several of the artist’s major themes and are some of his finest prints to date.
