Jacques-Henri Lartigue (1894-1986) Coco a la Chasse aux Papillons, Antibes
Gelatin Silver Print 21.3 x 27.9 cms (8½ x 11 inches) 1936
Unmounted warm-toned matte gelatin silver print, later inscribed on the verso "Coco" in pencil and the number 35 scratched out and the number 36 added in blue ink. The photographer's blue inked copyright notice is also stamped on verso: "Reproduction reservee a M. Jacques Lartigue et a ses avants droit."
Lartigue met Coco in 1933 in Cannes when she was working as a salesperson at an exhibition of his paintings. They were married a year later and remained so until 1941. This photograph was taken on the estate of the Jewish aristocrat Guy Weisweller.
