In contrast to the strength and composure of Head of JYM, in JYM Seated II all is movement. The painting, from a later series often showing the subject half- or full length in a chair, possesses a powerful dynamism and the subject appears ready to leap up. In contrast to the quiet of Head of JYM, this is a clamorous painting. The animation of the sitter is married to an almost jaunty handling of paint and a flamboyant choice of colours that powerfully demonstrates not only Auerbach's facility with paint but also his profound natural abilities as a colourist.
