Hollywood Extravaganza is an Illustration for ABC of the Theatre, a book produced by the artist in collaboration with the poet Humbert Wolfe (and for which they received equal credit on the title page). Published by Dennis Cohen of the Cresset Press in 1932, the book contained twenty-four drawings by Burra, each one accompanied by a brief verse written by Wolfe.

This design, which accompanies the letter K in ABC of the Theatre, appears alongside Wolfe's lines: 'K is for Kokran, refusing a booking. Will you do it a gain, sir? My friend wasn't looking.' According to Causey, Kokran presumably refers to the producer C.B. Cochrane.
