One of Davies' largest sculpted heads, this exceptionally large work is unique.

    James Hyman is
    delighted to present Lined Head
by John Davies, one of the leading British figurative sculptors of his
generation. Executed in 1985–88, this powerful painted fibreglass head
transforms one of Davies’s central subjects, the human head and figure, into a
work of truly exceptional scale. At 162.6 cm high and more than a metre wide,
it stands apart within his sculptural practice, bringing unusual monumentality
and psychological presence to a motif that Davies returned to throughout his
career. First exhibited at Marlborough Gallery, New York, in 1989, Lined Head
is a rare and important work from a pivotal period in the artist’s career.
