Saint-Trophime in Arles was built in the eleventh and twelfth century and is a powerful example of French Romanesque architecture. Gothic cloisters were added to the existing cloisters in the fourteenth century.
The church of Saint- Trophime has a special place in the history of early photography being a place of pilgrimage for Baldus, Negre and Em. Pec., each of whom produced works there that rank amongst their finest.
