London Art Fair was founded in 1989 by London’s Business Design Centre in Islington, where the Fair still takes place today, with the aim of providing a space to showcase exceptional Modern and Contemporary Art, to discover and to buy. Launching with just 36 UK galleries London Art Fair has grown steadily over the years with well over 100 galleries now regularly exhibiting and 25,000 visitors attending the Fair. London Art Fair provides an established home for Modern British Art, whilst embracing an increasingly international and contemporary outlook, with new galleries from around the world.

Nurturing collecting at all levels, from prints and editions to major works by internationally renowned artists, including works by Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Gillian Ayres, Henry Moore, Tracey Emin and William Scott CBE RA. London Art Fair also provides a platform for discovery and nurturing talent, playing host to many acclaimed artists early in their career with Chris Ofili and Jenny Saville awarded ‘rising star’ awards at the 1996 edition.

The Fair’s extensive gallery line up showcases a diverse cross-section of art from leading British galleries to emerging talent from across the globe; alongside an inspiring programme of curated talks, tours and artist insights.

Since 2014, London Art Fair has also selected a regional museum partner to work with each year to create a unique exhibition that enables our visitors to experience the heritage, quality and significance of regional collections. In 2026, London Art Fair is delighted to be working with the National Trust as it spotlights the legacy of 20th-century modern art and architecture in its care today.

The Fair also provides expert insights into innovative curatorial concepts in contemporary art through its critically acclaimed curated spaces: Encounters, offering a platform for the next generation of artists and gallerists as well as established names working in new or unexpected ways; Platform which features a selection of galleries presenting well-known, overlooked and emerging artists that align to an overarching annually changing theme; and Prints & Editions, a curated selection of galleries dedicated to limited editions and photography providing a platform for both emerging artists and established luminaries in printmaking and publishing.
