Vivian Maier. Children: Rare Lifetime Prints

10 June - 18 July 2024

Coinciding with fotografiska’s New York exhibition Vivian Maier. Unseen Work, James Hyman Gallery is pleased to present a small online exhibition of rare life-time prints that focus on Maier’s depiction of children.

The exhibition Vivian Maier. Children includes Maier’s rare vintage works and contrasts her rich black and white photographs of children in interiors with softer, almost pastel-like colour works of children playing in a park.

The vast majority of Maier’s work is only known through digital scans and recent editions. It was only after her death in 2009 that the rolls of film were developed , printed and editioned. This makes the present show a special opportunity to acquire vintage prints, that are almost certainly unique. These American pictures also represent central aspects of Maier’s life by bringing together her twin worlds as a children’s nanny and as a prolific photographer.

In considering Maier’s lifetime prints one also gains an indication of where her priorities lay and what, and how she chose to print.

Prices start at just £1440.
